Adult Divisions in Australian Nationals
The 2010 Ice Skating Australia AGM will have its place in Australian Adult Skating History
On Sunday 25th April 2010, ISA held their AGM. One courage's and pioneering Adult skater from Melbourne waited in the wings to present what can be called the “Presentation of Inclusion”. That lone skater was Wendy Meik.
Wendy's presentation was about Adult Skating in Australia. It pushed the agenda of inclusion of Adults in both State and National Championships.
The presentation was well received by the ISA Committee, who in turn agreed to include a Adult “Demonstration” Event at this years and 2011 Australian Figure Skating Championships.
While the event is to be a Demonstration event, it has the potential to showcase to ISA and the Figure Skating community the number of Adults Skaters interested in competing on a local level. It is also important to remember that this is to be a “qualifying event”. Now I hear you ask, “What does that mean?” I am endeavouring to find out and as soon as I have information, I will be sure to disseminate it to all.
The Schedule is currently showing the Adult Exhibition on Thursday 25th November. Put this in your diaries!!
The competition is to include both Dance and Free Skate with rumour of Pairs.
The levels have not been released as yet, however it is believed they will encompass the same elements as the ISU Adult Competition held in Oberstdorf each year. It is also believed that they will start at the ISU Adult Silver Level for Free Skate.
It is still not know what level dance will begin at, and if there will be a Free Dance. Both Helen and I are hoping that it begins at Primary or the Bronze ISU Adult category. We are also hoping it includes a Free dance.
I urge you all to start discussing the possibility of a program with your coach. There is still time to have something ready for your State Championships and then on to Nationals.
